Roswell | Episode Guide
Cry Your Name

MaxAlex is killed in a car accident. While the gang try to accept he may have committed suicide, Liz isn't so sure...

Written by Ronald D Moore
Directed by Allan Kroeker

The death of a show regular is always strong stuff, and this is Roswell's most harrowing episode yet. Colin Hanks's growing movie career resulted in the sad departure of his character in this slow, gripping show.

It's a commendably realistic approach, as we realise that the aliens' powers can't help them when they really need them, and it's great to see Roswell really rising to the opportunity to be subtle and unsentimental (compared to the horrible kiddie-healing spectacular that was A Roswell Christmas Carol).

Not only are the regulars great, but Shiri Appleby really shines as an increasingly maddening Liz. Her crazed behaviour is fascinating, as she refuses to believe that Alex could have killed himself - and the reactions of the rest of the gang as they try and gently dissuade her are great.

Of course, the bombshell comes when Liz decided that Alex was killed by an alien. It's great to see the tensions that have been simmering all season suddenly come to a head.

This week's love:

Alex: Isabel?
Isabel: Alex, when it's too late?
