The Lucy family lived at Charlcote Park for over 700 years, a beautiful home that sums up the grandeur of Tudor life.

It's important associations include Queen Elizabeth. It is also said that Shakespeare was caught poaching the estate deer.

The interior is now mostly Victorian, so it has all the pomp and society trappings that fascinate today's visitors.

Outside there is a formal garden that opens onto a huge deer park landscaped by the master designer of the country house estate, ‘Capability’ Brown.

The rich decoration inside the house really does make you feel like you're visitng royalty.

It's not surprising, then, to learn that Queen Elizabeth I stayed here, in the room that is now the drawing room.

Decorated in lavish gold, the room is amazing, even if the style wouldn't sit comfortably in most houses today!
