I attended the Cover or Cover Up? Seminar on Feb 19th and felt that it was an interesting and important debate especially considering the present world situation.

At the end of the day journalists are there to inform, report, comment and analyse so that in an ideal world they bring us coverage of reality that is unbiased - the so called 'mirror to the world'. Unfortunately, the key point that emerged in the discussion was censorship. While this is certainly relevent and possibly even a neccessity it is influencing our news content.

I feel that journalists may not always be able to challenge this censorship due to the hierarchy in the UK media industry.

We have been astounded and delighted by the response to Franko B's performance last week. It proved to be an intense experience for those lucky enough to see his work, and one I'm sure nobody will forget.

The atmosphere in Warwick Arts Centre last week was electric as people swapped stories and bonded over this live art performance. An amazing, surreal and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

I am going along to the talk with Franko B tomorrow to hear what he has to say. I do wonder why so many people are so opinionated about something that they haven't even seen... like Tim Yeo for example! If you don't like it - don't go and see it - SIMPLE!!

In the performance that I saw in London, he had intravenous drips, from which his blood slowly dripped down his arms.

I thought it was brilliant and moving.

I haven't seen this guy's stuff but I've heard of him and I'm proud he's coming to Coventry. If we want local events to be taken seriously then we have to attract International people to them. I can tell my mates in London we have big names here, too.

This isn't art, it's a freak show and it's disturbing to think anyone would want to go and see it - let alone our money being used for it.

It's outrageous.

I don't think we should argue about public funding for the arts. Artists have to struggle to make their work and the public benefit from being surrounded by culture, debate and expression.

Public money is wasted is far less productive ways elsewhere.

Please, will anyone help me to find information on my Grand-dad,John Lloyd,a quarter- master sargent in the yeomanry,he was born in 1840,died in1933,lived at Brooklands, Coventry, think that he supplied the horses for the Saturday soldiers, his grandson would like to know, as his father presented him with a gold watch, which had been presented to him by John Lloyd, his great grand-father, Thank-you

Since you graciously mentioned my book 'Operation Nimby' (a comedy about the attempts of one man to stop Rugby airport) on your news report and on this website, a lot of people have approached me to ask where they could buy it from.

I just want to inform everyone it can be obtained for Β£3.00 (with 15% of the cover price going to the Anti Airport Fund) from W.H. Smith in Coventry and Hunts Bookshop in Rugby.

We visited Santas Kingdom on 2nd Dec. Although my 3 yr old grandson did enjoy it the adults thought it had been very dissapointing. The website gives a different picture, for instance snowballing area was a plastic tunnel about 20ft long by 8 ft wide for which you had to queue not reallly what was advertised.

Santas present was not even gift wrapped, it was in a plastic bag and was a Β£2 toy not suitable for under 7yrs for a 3 yr old.

We had paid Β£120.00 for 4 adults and 1 child + Β£6.00 parking. We thought it was certainly not worth that amount.

Last night on the local midlands today there was a story about a dog left outside of a dog home. when their vet inspected the dog it was found that the dog required medical treatment which would cost Β£2500. The dogs home was asking for help to pay for this treatment.
But at the end of the storey there was no contact details given.

Pavarotti looked and sounded like someone doing a day's work that he did not especially enjoy (NEC Sunday, 20 October).

His voice was amplified and at times he sounded like a cow bellowing with its udder caught in a barbed-wire fence.

If we had been at home listening to CDs we would have turned the volume down. His soprano duetist had a beautiful voice, but we never discovered her name.

The prospect of a national Firemens' strike is dreadful. We risk widespread loss of life and property; diversion of an already hopelessly over-stretched Army from its usual duties, just when we may perhaps be involved in a war; litigation by property owners and insurance companies against Local Authorities for not providing proper cover; a long-term worsening of relations between the general public and the brave men and women who risk their lives for us.

Self-evidently, a claim for a massive pay increase, as now discussed, could destabilise Public Service pay of all kinds. But if I remember correctly, HM Forces receive an "X Factor" of 10% of basic pay in recognition of disrupted lives, extra danger and discomfort.

Local Authorities could surely give the Firemen a "standard" increase, plus increased increments for extra qualifications, and something like an "X Factor" in specific recognition of their hardships. Central Government could make more funds available for such "danger money"- much cheaper over time, surely, than a strike, and clearly tied to their exceptional lives. It would need careful comparison with eg Police pay, but could both help financially and show the community's gratitude.

Hi Jennifer,

I'm afraid I can find no information on the Rotunda actually revolving and can't remember ever having seen - or being told - it did rotate,

Do any readers have any information? Has the rotunda every spun or is it a Coventry urban myth? Let us know!
Vic

Do you have any information on the rotunda wimpy revolving?

Could you please, put information on your site to stop my brother being teased at work, we are both conviced that it did revolve but they need proof.

I look forward to seeing more pictures of Coventy. I miss it sometimes now that I live in Nottingham.

The RSC in Stratford

The RSC are planning to redevelop their main theatre in Stratford. Plans include pulling it down and starting again.

What do you think about the protest in Stratford that is against these plans?

They should knock the main house, the Swan and TOP down and build a holiday home and a casino.

After September 11th's events I worry about Coventry's weather towers attracting attention to the city at night. I like them but think that they should be toned down a bit!

Sarah Whitewood

Well aren't they broken anyway?
When I was in town last it was raining they were on yellow. I thought yellow was for sunny weather?

Baz
Coventry

Why do you need a tower to tell you what the weather is doing. If you're outside looking at the tower then you know whether it's raining, hot or windy anyway. Now, if it could do forecasts then it might be worthwhile.
Norman
Spon End

Sarah Whitewood is paranoid. Does she black out her windows at night too? The idea of a city being invisible is ridiculous - I think they'll find us if they want to!
Ian Mariot
Green Heath

I agree with the comment about us not being paranoid. We should do what we want regardless of terrorists. No terrorist is going to make me change what I do each day.
