Chhal (meaning the move) revolves around Karan Menon (Kay Kay) an undercover cop whose mission is to infiltrate the inner recesses of the underworld.
This will in turn lead him to Girish (Prashant Narayanan), the main leader and powerful man behind the underworld gang.

Karan manages to break through the various underworld levels unaware by the criminals that he is a cop. His only contact with the outside world is senior Inspector Ramesh Dave (Iqbal) who never looses focus from his aim. He is always there when needed by Karan.
He reaches his objective with great ease but soon realises that what he was shown by his police department was only a part of a large jigsaw puzzle. Its a puzzle in which he is only a small piece which would eventually complete the whole underworld picture.

He soon learns that Girish actually works for Shastri who happens to be the head of the whole underworld organisation. He is a man who has worked very hard to create his empire and is prepared to kill if anyone dared destroyed it.
Soon Shastri plans to leave for Malaysia and showers all his Mumbai based responsibilities onto Girish who is unaware that Shastri is playing an even bigger game and that he is only a piece of his gigantic puzzle...

Lighter moments in this intense thriller is provided by Padmini (Jaya Seal) who happens to be Girish's sister. She falls in love with our hero Karan.
This intense film depicts Karan's struggle to find his way through a web of deceit. He soon learns that the only way out of the underworld now is for him to accomplish his mission.
