The Learning and Skills council in Coventry and Warwickshire has assembled a calendar for 2003 to represent the talent of the region's young people.

Thirteen local people, aged between six and 17, have had their artwork selected for the calendar.

The beautifully presented full-colour calendar has been sent to around 1,500 organisations, giving the youngsters' artwork an unusual and high-profile audience. Jayne Moore, the marketing manager from the council, said the project should help build confidence.

She said: "I hope that being featured in our calendar will give them [these young artists] a boost in confidence and self-esteem..."

Each young artist has a whole page for their artwork, so they have a month each. The lucky thirteenth artist has been given the prestigious position on the front cover.

It is hoped the calendar will also boost the reputation of the council in the region.

The Learning and Skills Council has only been in Coventry and Warwickshire since April 2001, although its positive impact is already being felt.

The Coventry and Warwickshire branch is one of 47 arms of a national government organisation that aims to increase the level of learning all over the country.

In our area, the council has already taken the lead in developing industry sectors to help meet skill shortages in areas such as IT, medicine and construction.

The council aims to continue its relationships with industry and further education throughout 2003 and beyond, to promote new skills and learning for everyone's future.
