Whether you're after a few beers and a pool marathon or the largest session of your life, we've found the places that'll give you a break from the Union.

Best of all, it won't just be a good night out - we've managed to find ways to save you a few quid as well.

Let's start at the very beginning
Ìý
The Varsity, which is on Little Park Street, is an excellent place to start - and finish as well if it's a week-night.

Bar staff and bouncers are a friendly bunch and so are the natives, who mingle quite happily with their out-of-town chums.

There are special offers too, like a £1 a drink on Wednesdays and two meals for £5, but be warned, it can get pretty packed, so get there early to wedge yourself in to a decent spot.

Consider yourself challenged to find a cheaper, more enjoyable student night out in Coventry.

Fancy a stroll?
Ìý
ÌýHere bar in Coventry
Here at The Canal Basin
It's a bit of a hike to the Canal Basin, but well worth it if you fancy a trip to one of the city's youngest bars, Here.

Top tunes by some of the best DJs around abound on Friday's house night,ÌýSaturdays rotateand feature hip hop, D&B, funk etc depending on what week it is.

Possibly the most popular night for students, however, is Thursday when a £5 entry secures a night of free vodka, live music and DJs. It's a deal, it's a steal etc.

Ìý
Save your pennies for this one
Ìý
ÌýBrowns bar in Coventry
Browns bar in Coventry
Brown's on Earl Street is a very stylish bar, with a funky and modern design, but be warned they have a strict door policy.

The projection nights are excellent and have proved that Browns still knows how to pull in the crowds. Follow the link to the their website on the left.

If you do get past the bouncers here, you're in for a treat! The food is top - a huge plate for about a fiver.

The food's the only thing that could be considered a bargain at Brown's though. Drinks are very expensive so either stop for one, pose and scoot elsewhere, get a mortgage or grab your parents while they're visiting!

Disabled access is excellent. There is a lift to the right to get upstairs.

Graduate to the vodka, comrade
Ìý
ÌýBar Cuba
Newly painted in Commie red - Bar Cuba in Coventry
Like your vodka, comrade? Then shuffle down to Bar Cuba on Jordan Well.

This was formerly the Graduates' Red Square Vodka, and it still sells vodka of every discription and with special offers of £1.60 on doubles, you'll be dancing like a cossack in no time.

Don't be put off by the slightly grim exterior, the inside - and the voddies - make it an excellent pit stop.

Phoenix Nights!!
Ìý
ÌýPhoenix bar in Coventry
Phoenix bar...It's a Scream!
The fomer Colin Campbell 'It's A Scream' pub and nightclub has been re-named and refurbished. It's now called Phoenix, so you can enjoy a Peter Kay style Phoenix night down there!

Phoenix have some great offers and discounts if you can part with just £1 for the yellow card.

On Thursday between 1pm - 2am it's the old skool disko night - Behind the Bike Shed which is free entry with vodka for £1, reef and stella 2 for £3.

Just remember to take your NUS out with you to get the yellow card and it will be bargain heaven all evening, with dancing upstairs it's a top night out!

A dome in the sky? Almost
Ìý
ÌýThe Skydome arena in Coventry
The Skydome in Coventry
The Skydome is home to about five bars and clubs including Ikon, Diva and Jumpin' Jacks.

Avoid it at the weekend, unless you're heading to the cinema, as it isn't very studenty and the drink prices are a wee bit high.

During the week, though, things hot up a bit.

Cheese Nation at Jumpin Jack's every Tuesday night is probably the biggest party night of the week.

Every Sunday they have The Big Party which is free entry before night of madness and mayhem with guest artists, giveaways, drinks promotions. VK Flavours and Fosters Ice £1.50 before 10pm.

There are games, prizes, drink offers, giveaways and, naturally, plenty of cheese.

Watch out for student nights at Ikon, too.

Scholars
Ìý
Scholars is a fun and cheap way to get very drunk and very handy if you live in Stoke.

Built in a converted church, Scholars is a renowned pulling parlour! A cheap night out but go there at your peril.....

Feet don't fail me now

Live music from thisGIRL at The Colesseum
Stocked up on beer of much cheapness? Jolly good - time to shake it then.

There are some seriously good clubs in Coventry now and the white shirt army and their terrible tunes of a few years ago have been replaced by a diverse mix of venues.

The Colosseum provides a very deep, down and dirty night out on a shoestring budget. It's just plain brilliant!

The Colly has music to suit all of you, cracking club nights and some great live bands - including the likes of A, Soundtrack of Our Lives, thisGIRL etc.

Drinks are hopelessly cheap and the opportunities to meet interesting people in the queues for the loos are endless.

Student night is officially Monday, but the place is mobbed virtually every evening, especially the infamous Groovy Garden on a Saturday - where just about every genre is covered.

Ìý
Hungry? Go on, treat yourself!
Ìý
After all that drinking and dancing, why not grab something satisfying before making your way home with a traffic cone on your head.

(Please only attempt travelling home with a traffic cone/shopping trolley if you already own one. Do not steal them ... it says here!)

The city centre is home to a whole bunch of decent fast food outlets so wherever you end up, you'll be able to find something.

Kebabs are usually a priority at the end of the night and most of the city's kebab houses are the stuff of legend.

There's an excellent one around the corner from the police station on Little Park Street (also a useful place to hail cabs from).

If you're on your way back into town from the Colly or the Institute, there's an excellent outlet on Hales Street that sells the best chicken tikka and donner combo in the universe.

There's also a good kebab shop near to Gringo's and The Oak Inn at the beginning of Far Gosford Street.

If it's a ruby you're after, there are some sound curry houses in Far Gosford Street, Foleshill and Earlsdon.

Be warned though, some Balti houses do not have licenses and you won't be able to get a late beer. You can take your own in, though.

Oh, and beware the on-street burger vans. They are of varying quality (mostly poor) and should be avoided unless you really enjoy those loo-roll in the fridge moments.
