Have you ever been to Africa or the Caribbean or does your heritage lie there? Coventry Libraries are offering people the chance to come closer to the culture at special open days held as part of Black History Month.

Finham and Stoke Libraries will be throwing open their doors later this month to host special events celebrating the best in Afro-Caribbean culture.

Music, food and art from Africa and the Caribbean will be on offer for visitors, who can immerse themselves in years of tradition.

The libraries service is also particularly keen to welcome people of African or Caribbean origin or those who have been on holiday or lived in those areas to the special events.

Coventry City Councillor, George Duggins, said: "Black History Month celebrates the contribution, achievements and culture of black communities all over the world.

"Events being planned in libraries will provide an excellent opportunity for the celebration of cultural diversity in our society and for the viewing of our huge collection of compact discs, DVDs and books about black history."

Finham Library will be hosting its Caribbean Day on Thursday, 23 October, between 10.30am and 12pm.

Africa Day will be held at Stoke Library on Saturday, 25 October, from 2pm to 3.30pm.
