A photographic exhibition called Traces by Earlsdon-based photographer Ulli Ull takes a new look at Coventry's famous women in an exhibition devoted to her work at the Herbert Art Gallery.

Ulli Ull explores surface and meaning in local cityscapes. Her photographs feature places in the city associated with the women.

Ulli who has lived in Coventry for the last 18 years and lectures in photography at City College, the former Coventry Technical College developed an interest in the role women have played in the city's history.

The women who are indirectly represented range from St. Osburg who is believed to have founded a nunnery in Coventry around 700AD and Lady Godiva to Bhupinder Kaur Dhesi, Coventry's first education welfare officer, and Jill Phipps, the animal rights campaigner killed outside Coventry Airport.

Ulli's work challenges the viewer to think about the world in which we live and how there are layers of history and hidden meaning beyond the surface.

You can catch Traces at Coventry's Herbert Art Gallery and Museum until 28 April.
