Juniors In Equador

On day one of the World Junior Surfing Games at Salinas in Equador, our Cornish youngsters surfed consistently well throughout their heats despite the searing heat and sunburnt faces.

First in the water on day one of the competition was Josh Piper in heat four in the under 18's division. He surfed solidly to progress through to round two with a good score of 7.74.Μύ

Next up in the water was Max Tucker who was in heat five of the under 16's, a close heat and unfortunately he couldn't find the right waves and is now in the Repercharge competition.

ISA President Fernando Aguerre said: "We are pleased with the surf today. The point was going off today, with some surfers getting at least 300 meters of open face on their waves."

Toby Donachie was in heat 13 against another American surfer Fisher Heverly who got 12.40. Toby scored well with two good waves to progress into second place to the next round with 7.90.

Next up was Tom Good who was surfing in his first ever World Games. He put in a strong tactical performance against Australian Creed Mc Taggert. He was narrowly beaten into second with a 7.16 to a 9.37.

And the last team members in the water were Leon Mansfield who who had a really tough heat against in form surfers Dylan Cummings from Autrailia and Carlos Muniz from Costa Rica. With the surfer from Costa Rica taking the heat with 11.67.
