Christmas Was Coming

Christmas was coming The goose was getting fat I'd forgotten 'bout this column What a total prat. The editor was stressing A-huffin' and a-puffin' But my pressies needed wrapping And my bird still wanted stuffin'.

Facts about Thruster

Thruster didn't take up surfing until he was 19, but soon became hooked and was determined to let neither a late start, nor a remarkable dearth of natural talent stand in his way.

Now aged 40 he still sincerely believes it is only a matter of time before he becomes world champion.

Also obsessed with snowboarding, at which he is marginally more impressive (he can stand up), Thruster has been writing surfing and extreme sports articles for 15 years. His next journalistic challenge is to write a good one.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Break: Gwithian

Surf Trips: Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Philippines, Fiji, Indonesia, NZ, Hawaii, Australia, South Africa, Canaries, Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland. El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama.

Surfers' Ear Operations: 3 (but needs another)

Would love to live in: Galicia

Board: 6'4" x 18 ΒΎ rounded pin (and a 7'4" log when really desperate)

Standard: Easily one of the best in his cul-de-sac.

Yes Christmas was upon me
I was festive, gay and jolly
I had tinsel on my wetsuit
And I'd wrapped my board in holly

But January's looming
The water's getting colder
My knees are getting weaker
My head is getting balder

With this in mind my mother
Didn't buy me boots or wax
Or my regulation Christmas set
Of matching socks and kaks

Instead she bought a surfing hood
In which to warm my noggin
And I bought her a tabard
That she can clean the bog in

I'd rather be down under
With Cerys Matthews from Catatonia
But instead I'm at Godrevy
With the first signs of pneumonia

CJ Hobgood in California

And then we're into February
It doesn't get much bleaker
I thought "Stuff this!" and booked myself
A flight to Costa Rica

It's quite tough to leave West Cornwall
At this time of year so holy
But it's even harder to turn down
A bowl of guacamole.

So Chrimbo's gone let's say goodbye
To brussel sprouts and carols
And say hello to a New Year's swell
And lots of filthy barrels!

(I'm supposed to write 500 words
But this one seems much shorter
So I might well have the sack
Next time I see you in the water)

Happy new year!
Thruster
