Throughout December 2007, clubbers in Cornwall were asked to vote for their favourite local club DJ.

A record number of votes were cast in this year's contest. More than 8000 clubbers voiced their opinion.

DJ of the Year - Charlie G

The clear winner this year was a young DJ who has been filling dancefloors for many years.

Cornwall's Charlie G was over the moon to win the prestigious title.

"Chuffed to bits, the perfect end to an amazing year for me, and a great way to start 2008," smiles Charlie.

"I was really surprised and over-whelmed with the number of votes. It's also wicked to see the strength of the South West club scene and the huge loyal support from the clubbers."

At just 21-years-old Charlie G has rapidly established himself as a successful DJ, Producer, Label Manager, Promoter and even has his very own slot in the UK's number one dance music magazine, iDJ.

He may only be 21, but Charlie is already a veteran of the clubbing scene, having started his sets at just 15-years-old.

Since then he has developed his own unique style, ranging from mind blowing Tech Trance and Hard Dance to chunky Funky Electro.Μύ

Charlie G has played alongside every leading name in the Hard Dance and Trance world such as Yoji Biomehanika, Judge Jules, Eddie Halliwell, Brandon Block, Benny Benassi, Tidy Boys, Lisa Lashes, Anne Savage, Mark EG to name just a few.

"As young as I can remember I was always a little raver at heart," laughs Charlie. "I was into different styles of dance music from the age of 13, from happy hardcore to garage."

"When a local club decided to hold an under 18's DJ comp I had to enter, although I only had about two hours experience on my mates belt drive budget package, I had to do it," smiles Charlie.

"I remember stepping up to the decks for the first time," he continues. "I had planned my set for days but was still really nervous. My hand was shaking like mad when I lifted the needle up for the first time!"

Charle will be celebrating his winning the DJ of the Year title, but he won't be resting for long. The new year is set to be a busy time for the young DJ.

"Im off to Japan in March for a couple of weeks with some huge gigs alongside some real idols of mine, so I cant wait for that," he says.

"I'm also going to launch my own record label 'CGI Records', long overdue.. and really want to get to work in the studio with some big remixes and singles focusing on a electro edged tech trance sound."
