Thousands of locals and holiday makers will fill Fistral Beach hoping to watch some of the world's finest surfers tackling the Cornish waves.

Oli Adams from Newquay is one of those taking part. Along with his Oakley stablemate Russell Winter, he's hoping to make a big impression at this year's event.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cornwall's Matt Shepherd went along to meet Oli to find out how he's preparing for the Boardmasters, and talk more about his career highlights so far. Click on the link below to hear the full seven minute interview, only available here on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cornwall website.

Oli Adams has his Mum to thank for launching his career.

"When I was six my mum kept pushing me into the waves with my board," smiles Oli, as he relaxes on the cliff top over looking Fistral Beach.

"It wasn't until I was about 16 I realised that I could do this as a career. I guess I spent everyday of my childhood working towards that goal."

His determination has paid off. Oli now tours the world as a surfer and is gaining more and more success as the years go on. So far this season he's been crowned the English Open surfing champion. He achieved this at Newquay's Watergate Bay.

"I am going into the Boardmasters hoping for a high placing," says Oli. "I hope to surf against former world champion CJ Hobgood from America. He's one of the highest place surfers taking part in the event."

Oli has been increasing his training recently, in the lead up to the Boardmasters, to ensure he's at his in first class fitness.

"I have been surfing, running, doing yoga and stretching," says Oli. "You try to do as much as you can, even with a hectic lifestyle."

We'll be catching up with Oli Adams again during the Newquay Boardmasters, as well as other surfers taking part.ΜύΜύΜύΜύΜύΜύ
