Training on Tuesday saw me move into the stroke seat. I would either be rowing here or in the bow on Saturday.

My problem with rowing in the stroke seat was that I was a bit erratic and thus found it difficult to set a consistent stroke. The crew rowed to the Lifeboat Station, again using pyramids once we had warmed up. The crew then raced back to the Cove.

Thursday saw me again rowing in the stroke seat. During the session I made a 100% improvement on my stroke from Tuesday, managing to keep it consistent the whole time. This session focused on the rowing technique rather than the fitness. The crew rowed to Kennack Sands and back again, with particular focus being put on keeping arms straight for as long as possible.

Saturday saw the first of the Starred Events going off from Gyllyngvase Beach, Falmouth in boiling conditions. Due to the absence of Josh at number three, I had to move to the bow. We started in Berth 12 and a good start saw us leave Coverack (Berth 13) behind and go off towards the back of the leading pack.

Towards the end of the first leg George (Josh's replacement) caught a crab and this saw Newquay row through us to get the water on the first mark. Despite the fact they managed to keep the water on us round all three marks we did not lose sight of Newquay's rudder until about a quarter of the way down the home leg.

The home leg saw us try to get as much out of the stroke as we could in the hot conditions. We managed to stay a few lengths up on Par and finish 5th or 6th in the first heat. We finished 6th overall, and this was in a time only five seconds slower than our Mens A crew, a result we were extremely happy with.

Training has not been possible for the last week due to adverse sea conditions. Instead we have been using the rowing machines, weights etc in the gig shed to build on fitness.

A well done should also go to the two Cadgwith Under 14's crews, one of which finished 5th. A good day was had by all.
