Saturday saw the Truro River Race go off in reduced visibilty. The crew was thankful that last year's head wind was not present. After an excellent start we settled into second place behind Falmouth. We were first rowed through by the two Roseland crews half way down the first stretch of river. We were then overtaken by Hayle around the first bend and by Truro just before the King Harry Ferry.

On arrival at Boscawen Lock Gates we had to give water to a kayak and thinking that we had finished started to relax. After realising our mistake we had to sprint row through the shallows to hold off St Ives and finish sixth out of the Mens Gigs with with a time of 54 minutes 46 seconds. The crew was fairly pleased with the result but felt that the stroke could have been a bit more lively.Μύ Tuesday saw the final session in the gig from Mullion and provided us with an opportunity to get some rough water training. The crew was a combination of Men's A and Men's B rowers and the row included a warm up, pyramids, start technique, a ten minute 'race' and finally a warm down. Thursday saw a return to the gig shed and the usual six minute warm up followed by 3000 metres, 500 metres and one minute row. There were several seasons bests rowed. It was felt that these were because of the use of the sliding platform on one of the machines. My seasons bests were acheived in the 500 metres and the one minute row. It is likely that training will now wind down in order to prevent any late injuries. More from Charlie soon. |
