The singer songwriter walked away with the Best British Male Solo Artist at the Brit Awards. Cornwall's James Morrison is celebrating after scooping the Best British Male Solo Artist Award at the prestigious Brits in London on Wednesday 14 February. The singer who went to school in Newquay was chuffed with his award. "I really, really didn't expect this. I did try to think of a speech but I didn't want to pre-empt losing. "I'd just like to say I can't believe I'm here. This one's for every singer-songwriter still playing in pubs." Cornwall's James Morrison James beat a strong list of nominations which included Jarvis Cocker, Lemar, Paolo Nutini and Thom Yorke. The South West music industry enjoyed a double celebration when Devon rocker's Muse picked up the Brit Award for the best British Live Act. Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snow Patrol and the Scissor Sisters were among the stars who performed on the Earls Court stage. The event was themed around love and hate, with Oasis performing on the 'hate' stage and Take That taking helm on the 'love' stage.
