What happened to the Â鶹ԼÅÄ News app?
As part of our mission to better serve digital audiences, we have launched an all-new app experience that will bring together more content from across the Â鶹ԼÅÄ. Mirroring the refreshed Â鶹ԼÅÄ.com website, the new Â鶹ԼÅÄ app offers stories and videos from Business, Innovation, Culture, Travel, Earth, and more, alongside the same trusted news and world-class journalism that audiences previously found on the international Â鶹ԼÅÄ News app.
Do you need to register for the Â鶹ԼÅÄ app?
Registering for a Â鶹ԼÅÄ Account is optional in the new Â鶹ԼÅÄ App but doing so allows you to save articles and videos for later.
How to find content on the app?
There are several ways to find content within the new Â鶹ԼÅÄ app.
Â鶹ԼÅÄ Index Pages
We have several new Index pages on our Â鶹ԼÅÄ screen which is used to categorise and promote key content:
- Global News
- Business
- Innovation
- Culture
- Travel
- Earth
- Sport
ÌýEach of these above categories has several sub-index pages to allow you to drill down into more specific content. For example, our Innovation Index, features the following:
- Technology
- Science & Health
- Artificial Intelligence
These same Index categories are also presented in list fashion within the ‘More’ section of the app, found at the footer or bottom of the app.
Video Index
We have a dedicated space for all our Video articles and short-form content. This page is also divided by carousels for different genres such as, ‘News, Sport, Science & Health’.
Live Index
If you are particularly interested in breaking news or sports updates, we have a brand new ‘Live’ Index. This lists all live – and recently Live – news and sport pages. At the top of this new page, we have also offered ‘News’ and ‘Sport’ filters if you only intend to focus on one or the other during any session.
Search
If you know what type of article or content you’re attempting to locate, try searching for it using the search bar which can be found at the top of the ‘More’ section.
Saved Items
Finally, you will spot at the top of article pages, the ability to ‘Save’ located at top-right of the page. Once you have saved an article, this can be quickly retrieved by navigating to ‘More’ and clicking on ‘Saved Items’.
What does the ‘x’ button do in top-right of articles?
Whilst the back button simply moves you to the previous page that you were visiting, the ‘X’ button will close the article page and take you to the last Index page you were on such as Â鶹ԼÅÄ, Video, or a specific Sub-Index page such as ‘Earth – Natural Wonders’. This is designed to allow you to quickly return to the last Index category page you were on with a single click. It means you can find another article from that Index page with very little effort.
How to save content?
We have introduced the ability to save content in the new Â鶹ԼÅÄ app. The ability to ‘Save’ is located at top-right of the page. ÌýOnce you have saved an article, this can be quickly retrieved by navigating to ‘More’ and clicking on ‘Saved Items’.Ìý
How to share content?
We have introduced the ability to share content in the new Â鶹ԼÅÄ app The ability to ‘Share’ is located at top-centre of the page. By clicking on this button, you can share a link to the article on various apps installed on your phone or tablet. ÌýYou can also use the Share button to copy a link to an article which you can send via text or email.
Why is Sport content not part of the new design?
We will be rolling out additional changes to the app over the coming months, including new features and eventually Sports.Ìý In the meantime, the content on Sports remains the same as on the Â鶹ԼÅÄ.com websiteÌýsame as on the Â鶹ԼÅÄ.com website but brought together in one user experience.
