Complaint
A listener complaint that a pro-Palestinian student protester had not been corrected when she said the International Court of Justice (ICJ) had ruled that Israel was committing “plausible genocide†in Gaza. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the Â鶹ԼÅÄ’s editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
The ECU agreed the student’s statement reflected a widespread misunderstanding of the relevant ICJ ruling, and was inaccurate. However, the interviewer had already put it to her that “The claim that there’s a genocide of the Palestinian people would, as you know, be vigorously disputed by many people of several faiths and of no faithâ€, so listeners would have been well aware that the claim of genocide was controversial
