A listener complained an interview with the Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev was unduly aggressive. ΜύThe ECU considered whether the broadcast met Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ standards of impartiality.
Outcome
In the view of the ECU Mr Regev’s status as the representative of a government facing strong international criticism over civilian casualties in Gaza meant the interview, though challenging, did not go beyond usual audience expectation. ΜύMr Regev was asked about the offensive, the number of deaths, and the extent to which his government’s approach would deliver a successful outcome, including the release of the hostages.Μύ None of the challenges had the effect of preventing him from giving a full account of his government’s position - he was, for instance, able to maintain they had sought to minimise collateral damage and that the figures of dead were sourced from Hamas and therefore unreliable.
