Complaint
The programme was an episode of a drama series set in Birmingham and Coventry in 1981.Β A viewer complained that it was misleading in its portrayal of Irish Republican activity, as there had been no such activity in the West Midlands at the time.Β The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
While the series made no claim to strict historical accuracy, the ECU noted sufficient evidence of IRA activity in the West Midlands at or around the time in which the drama was set to warrant its portrayal.
