Complaint
A viewer complained the choice of contributors to a discussion about the riots in England contained insufficient challenge for those opposing the Conservative point of view. ΜύThe ECU considered whether the discussion met the standards for impartiality set out in the Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
The contributors included a former county cricketer and former Chief Superintendent in the Metropolitan Police, along with a former Conservative MP. ΜύIn the ECU’s view it was appropriate to put issues related to Islamophobia and two-tier policing to the former MP and she was given sufficient opportunity to defend her views and the record of her party in Government. ΜύIt was not unreasonable or biased that the presenter should ask for her response or allow the other guests to make clear their concerns.
