Complaint
In an interview with a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ political correspondent, reference was made to the Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn having been privately educated. Β A viewer complained this was inaccurate as Mr Benn had attended Holland Park Comprehensive.Β
Outcome
In the ECU’s view the correspondent’s remarks were not meant to be definitive, as he described them as a test of memory. Β The ECU noted Mr Benn had attended two fee-paying schools as well as Holland Park, but in any event the suggestion that Mr Benn was privately educated, while only part of the story, was not a serious inaccuracy such as to be in breach of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s editorial standards.ΜύΜύ
