Complaint

A viewer objected to the presenter’s remark that allegations of bullying by Dominic Raab put the spotlight on the Prime Minister’s judgement, which he considered to be based on newspaper speculation rather than facts, and biased against the Prime Minister.Β  The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ’s editorial standards of impartiality.

Outcome

On becoming Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak had promised the Government would have β€œintegrity, professionalism and accountability at every level”.Β  Subsequently Sir Gavin Williamson had resigned from the Cabinet amid controversy over his reappointment and Suella Braverman had faced criticism in relation to the Ministerial Code.Β  Both of these developments had caused opposition politicians to question the judgement shown by the Prime Minister in making Cabinet appointments, and the allegations against Mr Raab had prompted further such questioning.Β  In the ECU’s judgement the presenter’s remark was not indicative of bias, but simply reflected the facts.
