Complaint

A viewer complained that the programme gave misleading and inaccurate advice during an item on a dispute between two neighbours about the use of a wood-burner, giving rise to an unduly favourable impression of wood-burners in general. The ECU considered whether the broadcast met the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ requirements for due accuracy and impartiality.

Outcome

The dispute centred on claims that smoke from a wood burner was polluting a neighbouring property. Β The ECU found no evidence to support the claim that both the lawyer invited to offer his advice and the programme presenters themselves were unsympathetic towards the neighbour who had raised a complaint. Β It was made clear that wood burners are β€œactually quite dangerous” and need to be installed by a certified fitter. Β The advice given about what action people can take if they are concerned about a neighbour’s wood burner appeared to be in line with current legislation and regulations.
