Complaint
A viewer complained that putting the news of the resignation of Vaughan Gething as First Minister of Wales lower in the running order of this bulletin than the resignation of Gareth Southgate as manager of the England football team displayed anti-Welsh bias.Β The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s editorial standards of impartiality.

Decisions about which news stories to cover and what prominence to give them are normally a question of news judgement rather than editorial standards.Β In this instance, the judgement that Mr Southgate’s resignation was likely to have more resonance for the UK audience as a whole than that of Mr Gething (made in the knowledge that the latter resignation was likely to figure very prominently in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Welsh services) did not strike the ECU as out of keeping with appropriate news values in a way which gave grounds for inferring bias.
