Complaint

A viewer complained a report on the rail strikes unfairly placed the blame on the union ASLEF and was biased in its tone, choice of soundbite and use of language. Β The ECU considered whether the report met the standards of impartiality set out in the Editorial Guidelines.

Outcome

The report, which ran to just over a minute and a half, set out details of the latest planned industrial action by ASLEF. Β The union’s position was fairly represented with an extract from an interview with its Secretary-General Mick Whelan. Neither the tone nor the use of language seemed to the ECU out of keeping with that adopted for other stories in the bulletin.ΜύΜύΜύ
