Complaint
This bulletin included an item on the rise of Sir Keir Starmer which said he βshowed a ruthless streak when he suspended his predecessor from the party over antisemitismβ.Β A viewer complained this gave a misleading and biased impression of the reasons for Jeremy Corbynβs suspension from the Labour Party, which had not resulted from perceived antisemitism on his part but from his response to the EHRC report on antisemitism in the Labour Party.Β The ECU considered whether the item met the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔβs editorial standards of accuracy and impartiality.
Outcome
The ECU did not agree that saying Mr Corbyn had been suspended βover antisemitismβ implied that he himself had been deemed antisemitic.Β It considered the phrase to be a reasonable encapsulation of a situation in which Sir Keir had explained that Mr Corbynβs response to the EHRC report had βundermined and set back our work in restoring trust and confidence in the Labour Partyβs ability to tackle antisemitismβ, and found it neither inaccurate nor biased against Mr Corbyn.
