Composer and sound designer Dan Jones talks to Tom Sutcliffe about his epic mass participation sound composition Coventry Moves Together - ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4
A day of surprises
Throughout the day, a story emerged with the cityβs past, present and future highlighted by six energies played by well-know people from Coventry.
Resilience was represented by Kare Adenegan; Social Justine was represented by Sue Bent; Youthfulness by John Bernard; Sustainability by Pauline Black; People Power by Navin Kundra and Innovation by Daniel Lismore.
Also included in the day was a river-run following the River Sherbourne that flows beneath the city and fourteen modern day Godivas who rode through the streets of Coventry on horseback.
As a finale to the day, nine radio stations shared different parts of a piece of music called Coventry Moves Together. All the different pieces of music formed one full version when they were heard at the same time.
The music, composed by Dan Jones, created a city-wide orchestra.
Here's how Coventry people were asked to get involved:
- Step 1 - Make a plan with your neighbours - Each of you choose a different radio station to turn on from this list: ; ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ CWR; ; ; ; ; ; and
- Step 2 - Tune in and step out - Turn on your radios so that they can be heard from your doorsteps.
- Step 3 - Play it loud - Using your radios or car stereos we will fill streets and the rest of Coventry with a new and specially designed soundscape.
