Together we can change the world, one woman at a time."
Thanks to the generous support of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4 listeners and our Ambassador Thomasina Miers, we were able to raise more than £15,406 for our work supporting women survivors of war, living in some of the world’s most dangerous places. The money you’ve raised will help us to enrol new participants into our one-year training programme.
Through the training, each woman will receive practical knowledge of her health and her rights, so she can make informed choices, such as avoiding preventable diseases, voting or sending her daughters to school. She will learn a vocational skill and basic business training, so she can earn a stable income, feed her family, and send her children to school. Importantly, she will also come together with other women in a safe space, breaking the isolation and loneliness experienced by many women survivors of war.
“I saw many others like me who came to see their value," shares Shireen, a Syrian refugee and Women for Women International programme participant, who is living in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq with her seven children.
Not only has Shireen’s life changed forever, but her family and friends have felt the effect of her training and empowerment. Shireen has applied her learnings about issues such as child marriage and has become an advocate for education and women’s rights in her community. She is not alone in using her voice – 84% of women at graduation report that they are involved in household decision making and family planning, compared to 47% at enrolment.
We are so grateful for the support we have received through the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4 Appeal.
