Opportunity International UK

Radio 4 Appeal 7 January 2018

I’ve seen for myself the powerful difference your support can make in enabling people to lift themselves out of poverty.

Adjoa Andoh

Radio 4 listeners’ donated an incredible £13,913 to Opportunity International’s Radio 4 appeal.  These donations will now be matched by the UK Government, helping twice as many people work their way out of poverty.

Opportunity International works alongside local communities to equip people to build successful livelihoods.  Through loans, savings and complementary products and services in education, agriculture and health, our projects enable people to work their own way out of poverty.

Adjoa Andoh spoke movingly to Radio 4 listeners about Leila (pictured), a mother she met in northern Ghana who is building a successful farming business thanks to a loan and training from Opportunity International.

The funds raised will contribute to a new three-year project supporting farming communities in Ghana and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).  More farmers like Leila will receive loans and savings accounts to help them grow their business and smooth out dips in income during the ‘lean season’.  Financial training will enable them to manage and budget their household income, whilst agricultural workshops will teach them how to farm more effectively and increase productivity.  Thousands of people will be able to lift themselves, their families and their communities out of poverty.

Thank you to everyone who gave and supported our Radio 4 appeal.
