The weekly groups will provide the opportunity for local residents in hard to reach communities the chance take part in activities that will help to improve their health directly, just by participating. It will also provide a social opportunity to come together thus reducing isolation and loneliness.
A huge thank you to the Radio 4 listeners who supported our appeal by donating £9,721 to our appeal for our Live at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ services. We used this money to enable Doncaster Live at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ scheme to support older people in the area.
MHA’s Live at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ schemes exist to improve the quality of life and well-being of many older people who would otherwise be isolated, lonely, and find it difficult to participate in local community activity. Doncaster Communities Live at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Scheme was founded in 1998. Initially it covered a small area of the town, however its borders expanded and now serves the entire borough. The scheme currently provides three activities. We run the following, supporting 78 older people in the borough:
- Carr House - where members enjoy a variety of different activities on offer such as dominoes, carpet bowls, quizzes, reminiscence, crafts and general fun and laughter! Our members also enjoy a nutritious, home cooked meal and transport is offered if needed.
- Tickhill Pop-In – weekly lunch club and speakers on various different subject of interest. We have a variety of activities such as scrabble, boccia, crafts and reminiscence.
- Woodlands – this group has a variety of different activities on offer such as dominoes, carpet bowls, quizzes, reminiscence and crafts. The funds raised by Radio 4’s generous listeners will go towards the sustainability of the groups over the coming year, enabling us to help more older people in need and increase our membership.
MHA, Doncaster Live at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ scheme and its members are very grateful for the support of Radio 4 and its listeners in supporting our work with older people.
