Thank you, to everyone who responded to our Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4 Appeal. Your compassion and generosity was incredible! Together we raised £76,470 towards transforming lives.
According to the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery, conditions requiring surgical treatment kill more people in low-income countries than HIV/Aids, TB and malaria combined. Globally, 5 billion people have no access to safe and affordable surgery when they need it. We operate the largest charity-run hospital ship in the world, delivering free, safe medical care to some of the world’s least-developed countries.
Right now, our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, is docked in Conakry, Guinea and our volunteer crew are doing all they can to change as many lives as possible. Almost everyone on-board our ship, from surgeons to cooks and other support staff has not only volunteered their time but are covering the cost of being on-board with their own funds or funds they have raised. This means our supporters donations go further. Together we are changing the odds for thousands of desperate people. You can find out more about some of the patients you have helped treat,
Since 1978, Mercy Ships has visited 55 countries, providing services worth more than £1.2 billion. We have performed over 95,000 life-changing surgeries, 445,000 dental procedures and taught over 239,000 locals in basic healthcare. We have also trained over 42,000 local professionals in their areas of expertise to leave a legacy that lasts.
