PHOTO CAPTION: You’ve helped musicians like Joncan
As a message to Help Musician's supporters, I'd just like to say a massive thank you for aiding us. Having a charity to help during Covid was an incredible revelationβ
Thank you so much to Radio 4 listeners, who donated over £26,000 in response to our appeal.
The last two years have been tough for musicians, with lockdowns and intermittent work affecting their income. Thousands turned to Help Musicians for financial hardship support. While life starts to return to normal, many are still struggling, and in this year we have seen significant demand for mental health support.
Our Music Minds Matter service is available 24/7. Your donation helps us provide more musicians with fast-tracked therapeutic support – talking confidentially with a counsellor to enable them to return to creating and performing.
Joncan reached out to our Music Minds Matter service after his income plummeted. As a self-employed full-time musician, he had made his living purely through live performances, before Covid silenced the live music industry. He spoke to a counsellor about his problems, and this gave him the confidence to complete his debut album βat Abbey Road Studios, perform again βprofessionally, and thrive once more.
Help Musicians was founded by the composers Elgar and Vaughan Williams over 100 years ago. Its aim was to provide support both in times of crisis and opportunity. We are always there for musicians in their hour of need. This year is a crucial one for musicians to rebuild – making the most of the opportunities now in front of them. From creative grants, to mentoring support and business advice, our range of help builds the confidence, knowledge and skills musicians need to thrive again.
You make such a difference, so on behalf of the musicians whose lives you are changing, thank you so much again.
