My family has benefited from major discoveries that were years in the making." – Rosie
At Ovarian Cancer Action we run innovative public awareness campaigns alongside funding vital research into preventing the disease, diagnosing it as early as possible, and developing more effective treatments. Improvements in each of these areas will transform the lives of women today and for generations to come.
We are so grateful to Julia Bradbury who presented our Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Lifeline Appeal. It provided a platform for Laura, Rosie and Suzie to share their experience of ovarian cancer. Filming remotely wasn’t easy, but a challenge our brilliant contributors overcame to bring our Appeal to life.
Covid-19 had quickly led to paused cancer treatments and a worrying drop in diagnoses. So shining a spotlight on this disease could not have come at a better time.
Thanks to everyone who kindly donated, we raised over £59,118. Your support meant we could continue to fund research that was temporarily put on hold at the start of the pandemic, and deliver support services for those affected by ovarian cancer.
We also received a high volume of traffic to our hereditary cancer risk tool thanks to Rosie and Laura, who bravely shared their experience of hereditary ovarian cancer and how it has affected their families. Around 15% of ovarian cancer cases are hereditary and potentially preventable, so it was fantastic to see viewers take a proactive approach in exploring their familial history.
From developing a screening tool to protect women in the future, to creating kinder treatments to benefit women living with ovarian cancer today, our scientists are determined to make ovarian cancer a survivable disease.
