Relax with Love Monster's Book Cub

The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week this year is ‘Nature’ and the curation on CBeebies Radio ties in perfectly as we accompany Book Cub in Fluffytown Forest, The Beach and even a Zen Garden.

Emma MacLennan, Yoga Teacher and voice of Book Cub says:

"Breathing is great. I’m a big fan of breathing! And teaching children to be conscious of their breath is such a valuable tool when approaching mindfulness. Focusing on our breathing helps route us in the present moment, and is a really simple and accessible way to bring our attention into our bodies. In this fast-paced world we live in it can be very hard to find the time (and motivation!) to switch off and give ourselves space to just be. The use of visualisations helps children engage with the exercises, making them not only relaxing, but enjoyable too. I’d recommend anyone - of any age - give them a go and give yourselves a little break!"

Leah Brennan CPsychol AFBPS, Chartered Clinical Psychologist says:

‘Learning how to regulate your breathing is an important skill that supports emotional regulation. Emotional regulation helps children (and adults too!) to have more influence over the intensity of the emotions they experience. You can support your child to do this by joining in with Love Monster and Book Cub's breathing exercises. The more children practice these techniques the more useful they will become when they really need them. Remember that children learn by watching, so make sure you join in too.’

Claire Benton, Head of Audiology, Nottingham says:

‘I see many children in my clinic who are struggling with worries and anxiety, I am always looking for good resources to help support them. These Breathing Exercises are a great addition; short, engaging moments of calm that help children carry out relaxing techniques.’

You can listen to all the breathing exercises here on the CBeebies Radio Website. You can also listen on the go with the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds app.
