Attract wildlife to your garden with your very own cosy little toad abode! 🐸

Step 1

Ask for permission! Make sure your parents or guardians are happy for you to dig in the garden. 👩‍👦

Once you have permission, it's time to get a little messy! Dig a hole in the ground and find a watertight container to bury. Larger is better, but any size will be fine. It could be an old pot or tub, just make sure it’s watertight!

Make sure you have help from a grown-up when handling any tools and heavy objects. 

Let's fill it up! 💦

Your toads will appreciate somewhere to sit and jump, so add in some stones or sticks. 

For the water, try and use rainwater because it’s gentler on wildlife. If rainwater is not available, you can leave tap water outside for a few days.

Here's a fun fact: toads don't drink water, but instead they soak their bodies in it to absorb what they need through their skin! 

Build a den! 🪴

For this, find a smaller old plant pot and partly bury it in the ground. This will be a lovely little cosy den for toads.

Now is a good opportunity to decorate, be as creative as you like! Cam painted his plant pot a wonderful green colour.

Lets make the toad home a bit prettier! ✨

Abby found a super cute garden gnome to use and a solar light, which will help to attract insects at night so that the toads can have a little midnight snack!
