Cambridge Film Festival 2008 - the highlights

As we count down the days to the eagerly-awaited 28th Cambridge Film Festival, we bring you some of the highlights to look out for this year...

The 28th Cambridge Film Festival: Thursday 18th September - Sunday 28th September, 2008

Get set for more films than you can shake a tub of popcorn at, as this year's fabulous Film Festival prepares to launch the city into celluloid heaven.

Big names including Tilda Swinton will be gracing the festival with their presence and past icons of the silver screen including Boris Karloff and Derek Jarman will be honoured with a series of revivals.

Here's hoping the later date of this year's festival won't put paid to the innovative outdoor screenings planned at various locations throughout the city including a series of shorts set up along the banks of the River Cam for you to enjoy from the decadent setting of a punt!

Composer Carl Davis, who's passionate about making music for restored silent films, will be holding a masterclass on 20th September at the Arts Picturehouse at 3.15pm.

Or what about wandering around Magdalene Street enjoying some free films on giant outdoor screens? Historical films showing how Cambridge has changed over the years, beautiful timelapse photography and comedy are just some of the films showing as you make your way along the street and onto Quayside. All this is from 8pm-10pm on 21st September.

There's also a celebration of Polish cinema and the chance to get your head around the curious world of Machinima, melding computer games technology and animation to produce stunning results. Want to know more about Machinima? Try this:

Why not whet your appetite with a few Film Festival exclusives from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Film Network website? Try an exclusive interview with Gideon Koppel talking about his debut feature, Sleep Furiously, which is showing on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st September.

More on the Film Festival

It's all good stuff...

And yet more exclusive stuff...
