Blast reporter profile

Tim Joyce is your brand new Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast reporter for Bristol. Over the coming months, he’ll be bringing you the best that Bristol has to offer and finding the top young talent in the region. First though, it's time for a bit of bonding.

Goooood morning Bristol! Yes, it is I, your brand-new Blast reporter Tim Joyce, and I'm here to bring you the lowdown on, well, me!

When I'm not being an ultra-important Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ work-experience type person, I study economics at Reading University, which usually elicits from people the same kind of noise that your mechanic makes just before he tells you it's "not good news" for your VW Golf.

Cricket action in glorious Pucklechurch

Your blast reporter with bat in hand

As dull as it may sound, I'm having a fantastic time and really looking forward to my final year.

Best thing that's happened to me

Ever since I was a kid it has been my dream to be a journalist, so being selected for this placement was definitely the best thing that has happened to me in 2007.

The runners-up for this prize included finding a Β£5 note in the fountain on the waterfront and miraculously fixing my dropped digital camera with a stick, but Blast definitely wins hands down.

In my spare time I'm a keen sportsman, and during my illustrious career I have been described as "lumbering" (football), "technically stunted" (tennis) and "a massive liability" (ultimate Frisbee).

Cricket stands alone as my most successful sporting pastime, I play for Pucklechurch Cricket Club and would like to be remembered fondly in village folklore as the slowest scoring opening batsman in Sunday XI history.

Outside of my great sporting achievements (ahem!) my other main passion is music.

Dizzee Rascal

Dizzee in action

ΜύAs there are enough tracks on my iPod to last a couple of weeks without repeating any of it, finding something to listen to on the journey into work each day can be frustratingly difficult.

The three albums I'm listening to most at the moment are Orchestra of Wolves by Watford hardcore outfit Gallows, Armchair Apocrypha by the phenomenally talented Chicago song-smith Andrew Bird, and Dizzee Rascal’s new release, Maths and English.

During this placement, I'm hoping to learn as much as I can about what it takes to be a journalist, and produce some really interesting articles which I hope you will all enjoy reading. Stay tuned for the upcoming features; they're really not to be missed!
