Yorkshire 2012: Bradford's biggest ever outdoor dance!

The 2012 Olympics may still seem a long time away but events are kicking off right here in Bradford in July when, it's hoped, 2,012 will be dancing together in Centenary Square.

Yorkshire Dance 2012

WANTED: 2012 dancers in Centenary Square!

If you want to be part of Bradford's - and Yorkshire's - biggest ever dance on Saturday July 25th, then please read on. Yorkshire Dance, an organisation dedicated to bringing all aspects of dance to the region, is inviting YOU to join in a celebration of Yorkshire's hopes for the 2012 Olympics.

Yorkshire Dance has asked star choreographer Luca Silvestrini to create an easy-to-learn dance routine but each move is inspired by a different Olympic sport. And it may look simple but Yorkshire Dance are sure that any routine which involves 2,012 people dancing at once can be nothing less than amazing.

Don't be put off if you haven't done much in the way of dancing before. Whatever your age, ability, shape, size or background, consider yourself invited. Wieke Eringa from Yorkshire Dance says: "Luca's dance is really fun and easy to learn and will look and feel absolutely amazing with 2,012 people dancing together in Centenary Square. No matter whether you are a first time dancer or an unstoppable mover, all you have to do is turn up, warm up, take part in a short rehearsal and go for it! There will be a safe area in the centre of the square for wheelchair users to dance in and you might just find yourself dancing alongside one of Yorkshire's own Olympic athletes."Μύ

You can even learn a few simple moves from a video on the Yorkshire Dance website. Vince Virr, the Bradford born dancer who is featured on the video, says: "I had a great time filming the moves. We hope the online film will help everyone to enjoy themselves as much as possible by checking out the website and getting themselves moving before July 25. I'll be there on the day to teach the moves and I can guarantee we'll have a fun packed time! Everyone can do it for sure, so we're looking forward to seeing loads of people in Centenary Square to make Yorkshire's 2,012 something really special to kick start our Olympic dreams."

While the Yorkshire 2,012 dance is due to take place from 11am to 12 noon on Saturday, July 25th, there will be dancing in Bradford right across the weekend, starting at 4pm on Friday with an open-air tea dance in front of the Big Screen. And, if that's not enough, Strange Fruit, from Australia, will combine dance, circus and theatre skills perched on giant illuminated orbs to provide grand finales on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Bradford's weekend of dance is just part of this year's London 2012 Open Weekend which is taking place right across the country.

There are just 1127 days to go before the London Games kick off but Yorkshire 2,012 is just the first of many ways people in Yorkshire can be involved. After all, we don't want Londoners to have all the fun!

Yorkshire 2,102 takes place in Bradford's Centenary Square on Saturday July 25th, 2009.
