Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast comes to Bradford!

If you go down to Centenary Square in Bradford this week, you may be in for a bit of a surprise. A 'Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast Truck' has parked up there but what exactly is it doing here in West Yorkshire? We went along to find out more...

The Blast team: Paul, Sharan, Lorna and Frankie...

Although the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast Truck is now in town, the fun doesn't kick off until Wednesday 11th June when groups of youngΜύpeople between 13 and 19 years of age will be invited on board to take part in a host of activities and workshops.

Having a blast with a video camera!

For the next three days they will be creating animations, producing a documentary film and even running their own radio station. Listen out for Blast Out Loud when you wander through Centenary Square.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast Truck comes equipped with lots of facilities, all aimed at helping the young people taking part to express themselves creatively. It has a television studio, editing areas for both sound and video, digital workshop space and performance areas. People working in these fields as well as special tour facilitators will be on hand to provide expert advice and support.Μύ

Carnival costume making, Bollywood dance, lyric writing and photography sessions are just some of the other activities on offer during the Blast Truck's stay in Bradford.

Blast Event Tour Organiser, Paul Irwin, tells us he's really been looking forward to seeing the Blast Truck in Centenary Square. He says: "The Bradford event has been great fun to organise - there is so much creative talent in the area and we wanted the programme to reflect this. We have the DJs 'Punjabi Hit Squad' from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Asian Network coming for the Thursday and Friday, Capoeira dancers on Wednesday and so much more happening over the three days."

Who knows who may be dropping in!

But it's not just about having fun - taking part in the activities aboard the Truck provides an opportunity for these young people in Bradford to take their first steps in acquiring some of the skills necessary if they are to eventually make a career in the creative industries. Paul points out: "Blast's aim is simple: to encourage young people to express themselves through creativity. We've got some great workshops lined up and it's a brilliant opportunityΜύto develop new skills, work with experts and showcase your work."

Paul thinks the Blast Truck's stop-off in Bradford may be just that bit special: "Bradford is such a diverse place with so much to offer young people and we believe we have gathered some of the best facilitators in the area so come and try something exciting."
