Letter from Miami

Dan Damon Dan Damon | 13:09 UK time, Monday, 14 August 2006

This blog is for you to give your opinions, of course, not just for me.

Roberto Alvarez-Galloso sent a picture from his home town, Miami, on the day pictures of an apparently recovering Fidel Castro were released.

Here are Roberto's comments with his picture...

"On Castro's Birthday, I took some photos of Miami Florida, especially Versailles Restaurant.

"One of the photos I took was of the leader of the Vigilia Mambisa, an Anti-Castro Movement in exile called Saavedra.

"Saavedra (as well as Movimiento Democracia Leader Saul Sanchez) have been one of the few leaders who has Cuba in their heart. Saavedra told me that he saw these photos of Castro and they were taken maybe a few years ago.

"[On a Personal Note, I saw the photos and Castro appeared to have been drugged].

"On this same day, Saul Sanchez commented on how Bush managed to inflict damage on the cause of a free Cuba by giving Castro an excuse to stay in power by accusing the dissidents of being mercenaries.

"This is the photo I took of the Cuban Flag behind rails as a symbol of the violations of human rights.

" I refuse to have these "people" - Communists, Republicans, Democrats - implant a foreign ideology on my Cuban personality.

"It has been a crime that Castro has been allowed to get away with racism, family separation, cruelty, firing squads, sending people to die in far away wars (like Bush is doing in Iraq and Afghanistan although in Bush's case, it has been voluntary).

"I would like to reiterate that the Dissident Movement IS TRULY CUBAN and IS NOT A PUPPET OF THE REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS. In fact, in my opinion [writes Roberto] the Republicans, Democrats, and Communists of the Cold War Era have collaborated to create a climate of hatred, and fear amongst the people of the world.

" I would also like to thank the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ for being a Voice of Freedom and Democracy when no one wanted to be;ieve in freedom and democracy. Last but not least, I thank the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ (and God) for being with me since 1970 when the world seemed lonely."

I do not know what will happen but only time will tell.
