Tally-ho, now off we go...to Detroit
After three days on the road, taking in Washington and Cleveland, World Have Your Say is gearing up for shows number four and five in . As Mark said, the welcome weβve been getting in the States has been fantastic, and since arriving at the home of Detroit public radio, , I too have been treated with outstanding hospitality. Iβve already had meatloaf for lunch and Iβm looking forward to a massive burger for dinner. Any other suggestions for quintessential US food I should be eating are more than welcome! Anyway back to the show...
Weβve got two more full houses for the programmes being broadcast from WDET's studio. With this type of reception I donβt think Iβm going to want to come back, I canβt see Mark agreeing though!
The from the US midterms are in, and the Democrats have, well, dispatched the Republicans taking control of the House of Representatives and apparently, according to CNN, the Senate too. But there was just one thing listeners to our last show in Cleveland wanted to talk about, . You can read their comments here.
Tomorrow though, itβs a clean slate. The midterms are mostly out of the way, so itβs 100% back to you.
What are you thoughts on the Ireaeli shelling of the northern Gaza town of, which has, so far, killed 18 Palestinians and injured many more? The Palestinian Prime Minister, Hamas's Ismail Haniya, denounced the attack as an "awful massacre". The Israeli authorities are said to have ordered a halt to artillery attacks while the incident is investigated. What does this mean for the stability of the region? Are you worried? Do you have friends or family in the area? What are they saying?
And thereβs trouble brewing in Jerusalem over a thatβs supposed to be taking place at the end of the week. I say βsupposedβ because after last years march, where three people were stabbed, Israeli authorities were thinking of postponing it. Thereβs tension on both sides, religious leaders and activists have asked the Supreme Court to ban the march calling it an . But in apparent response to those calls a Tel Aviv synagogue has been and daubed with graffiti. Your thoughts wanted. If there's anything else you think we should be talking about let us know.
Right, Iβm off to find myself the biggest burger in Detroit and meet up with the rest of the WHYS US team. In fact itβs going to be most of the WHYS team. Iβve just received a call from our intrepid presenter, Ros, whoβs broken down 50 miles away from Detroit with all the kit. He wants me to tell you that heβs at a gas station off highway 75 somewhere Toledo, so if you see him get him a cup of tea he could be there for a while. Who says presenters donβt get their hands dirty. Good luck Ros.
