Why 42 days?

Next week the Commons will vote on whether to extend the time terrorist suspects can be held without charge from 28 days to 42.

When the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Secretary appeared on the programme to talk to you a few weeks ago, I asked her why 42 days was the magic number

doesn't know why it's 42 days; and the that the joint select committee on human rights says even with the earlier this week, the plans still breach human rights laws.

We do however elect politicians to protect us (amongst other things), so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised when they ask for the tools to do that.
