Police Getting Closer
Anyone who listened to today's Northern Ireland Questions would have come to the conclusion that the date for policing and justice powers coming to Stormont is receding. But in one respect the Police are getting closer to the Assembly building. Sting, Andy and Stewart were due to be playing their summer gig elsewhere on the Stormont estate. But they have now shifted up the hill to play with the imposing backdrop of Parliament Buildings behind them. So that's the Police sorted. Policing is another matter.

Have you heard the latest, Mark? The prospect of the Police playing a gig at Stormont has had a positive impact on relationships between Sinn F茅in and the SDLP. I have just learned that Daith铆 McKay and Declan O鈥橪oan have co-written a letter to Sting asking him to sing 鈥淓very Breath You Take,鈥 one of the Police鈥檚 biggest hits, as their special request for Junior Paisley. That鈥檚 not the half of it. They have re-worked the song鈥檚 lyrics so that they reflect Junior鈥檚 contribution towards improving the Public鈥檚 perception of Politicians. Not content with that, Daith铆 and Declan also want to join Sting on stage as backing singers. Would you believe it?
Fortunately, using the Back-channel, I have obtained a copy of the new lyrics which give a very fair reflection of the trust that Daith铆 and Declan place in Junior in his role as an MLA.
