A loyal fan

David, now Lord Trimble, has been defending the King - of Rock n Roll, that is. The former Ulster Unionist leader was the guest on ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4's Great Lives programme, marking the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death. Lord Trimble staunchly rejects criticism of all Elvis films, and praises his distinctive musical style. While conceding some films were daft, Lord Trimble insists: "There's nothing wrong with a light weight musical comedy!" Indeed, Lord Trimble confessed to liking Follow That Dream and described Viva Las Vegas as a superb film....

Trimble will reamin for ever an enigma. A very intertesting man but maybe too complex to ever be an effective leader.

MY SWEET LORD – NOT!

You’ve gone beyond the pale with this Blog. Why anyone would wish to hear Trimble’s views about the life and times of The King escapes me. Trimble daring to assess the life of The King will horrify Rockers all over the world. Elvis is a cultural icon who achieved unparalleled success, setting new records as a singer, musician and actor. His influence as a musical artist has never been surpassed.

Contrast Elvis’s triumphs with the miserable career of Trimble. Basking in his reputation as an intellectual (Lecturer in Conveyancing, for God’s sake!), cloaked in self-importance with a good dollop of arrogance and master of sophistry he destroyed the UUP. A failure as a negotiator, he was outplayed at every turn by Sinn Fein/IRA, conceding on key issues, particularly matters relating to the rule of law. In brief, Trimble’s legacy is the herd of eighteen UUP dolts in the Assembly, trying to give the impression that they are a credible Unionist party.

The World will remember Elvis for his greatness; in Trimble’s case it will be for his very camp β€œVictory Jig” at Drumcree.

The only thing the World wants to know from Trimble is: β€œWhat did you do with the Nobel Peace Prize money?” Uh huh!

REX REGNANT!

Trimble must keep himself occupied somehow - but who would bother listening to him now, especially on such a subject?
I had dinner one evening about 13 years ago and Trimble was at the next table - I don't believe anyone at the table actually got a chance to speak - Trimble was full of his own self importance - he obviously followed the same principle in politics and did not take any other views on board - even though he was wrong most of the time - ah well UUP RIP - solely down to Trimble leadership (or lack of it).

I wonder if the history books will be as generous as I have been !

We're not dead yet! West of the Bann is going to come back. For example, if you look at elctoral results in Fermanagh and South Tyrone for the assembly elcetions, the UUP vote was up on 2005.
David Trimble lead Unionism through a period of political uncertainty the likes of which had never been seen before in NI. Without his and many other peoples work there could have been many more deaths at the hands of repubicans but instead they were brought into a place were the option of violence was no longer viable.

Laugh all you like! The most dangerous type of animal is a wounded one. We'll come back stronger and ready to deliver for NI!
