Experimenting with South African helmets
In the spirit of here are some hats I made earlier. Or possibly hats I ruined earlier. The official name for them is - they're standard plastic safety helmets, carved, bent out of shape and painted.

My children are all making to wear at school. The paintwork above is their handiwork (a bold, experimental mixture of oils, acrylics, felt-tips and spray paints) and the carving work was a combination of me, a wobbly penknife and some blisters.
The plastic tends to crack if you bend it too hard, and I've been toying with the idea of applying some heat. Any advice - on carving, bending and painting - would be gratefully received.
