I've got an ASBO - Hopefully this will be covered by Newsnight, as I've just been listening to an asinine imbecile called Edward Welsh on PM with Eddie Mair defending the use of the 'Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act' for SPYING on a couple suspected, but completely innocent of, telling fibs to get their child into a school in a particular catchment area.

This legislation was passed by the Govt. with the usual banal nonsense about how it was to 'stop terrorists' [although it also re-defined that 'T-Word' to cover almost any form of robust political protest], and now, surprise surprise - the worst fears of Shami Chakrabarti at Liberty have come to pass !!

Yes, those imbeciles at the Local Government Association, who have clearly been watching 'The Lives of Others' and have gotten in a lather of 'ostalgie' about the new powers that they have been given to act as Stasi-lite officers going around the country snooping on 'dangerous crims' i.e. Flytippers, School queue jumpers and, er, people double parking if one isn't careful.

Please please please get that Welsh on this night's show, so his feeble, facile, ridiculous apologism for the use of this legislation and the total abandonment of civil liberties in this 'surveillance state' is in any way justified to snoop on someone who is totally innocent from being spied on in their own home.

Perhaps he may even be tempted to offer up that usual homily of the Stasi-supporting bureaucrats who want us all to have ID cards, and not even heckle at a Labour Party conference - 'If you do nothing wrong, you will have nothing to fear..'. Yeah, right.

... I cannot believe that Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ does not have a "code of conduct" that would outright forbid "tampering" with a story as happened here. Not that I believe everything Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ spits out, or other media outlets for that matter, but what it is most disturbing is the absence of a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ apology and explanation that this was a mistake.
