Good morning everyone,
There are some good stories around today. It's Hillary Clinton's make or break day today against Barack Obama as voting in four US primaries take place. Peter Marshall and Ben Bevington are in the US for the programme. Do come to the meeting with ideas on how we should be doing the story today. Have you got any ideas for big name interviews in debate? Lots of bids have been put in already.
Condoleeza Rice is in the Middle East today. Mark Urban should still be in Jerusalem. David Grossman has a good Lib Dem story. I'll tell you more in the morning meeting. I rather like the Margaret Hodge Proms story if we have time.
We have a strong film from Madeleine Holt and Ed Main. Three films have been withdrawn from sale following a Newsnight investigation into the health risks of so-called bareback gay porn β which shows men having unprotected sex. It follows concerns within the gay community that performers are being infected with HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Any other ideas for stories welcome. Playout thoughts?

I read recently that Oliver James (psychiatrist) advised New Labour for ten years. During that time, government seemed to get ever more dysfunctional. Could you get him on the show to tell us why?

Straight question: do you intend to highlight the report from UN Special Rapporteur John Dugard (UN Human Rights Council, Human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories: report of the Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories Occupied since 1967)?
As noted in the current Media Lens Alert:
βThe report, authored by UN Special Rapporteur John Dugard, concludes that Palestinian terrorism is the "inevitable consequence" of Israeli occupation. While Palestinian terrorist acts are deplorable, "they must be understood as being a painful but inevitable consequence of colonialism, apartheid or occupation." Dugard, a South African professor of law, accuses the Israeli state of acts and policies consistent with all three.β

Could you do a story on how desperate the police are for recruits and how this has led to them training and employing those who are not up to the job or who are making mistakes daily.
Due to the large numbers needed they are employing those without any qualifications who are of dubious character and this has led to the law been seen as abusive and untrustworthy and further adds to crime and disharmony.
You should research this.

DEMOCRACY FOR BEGINNERS
With democracy defined as βGovernment ULTIMATELY by the peopleβ why do politicians get so heated when the people demand a referendum? I know the usual cry is that the voters sign away their individual right for each term, to something called: "Parliamentary Democracy". But surely, in 2005, only 22% chose to enfranchise New Labour in that way, whereas today around 80% want a referendum on the EU chicanery. Surely ultimate democracy equals infinite referenda and any retreat from this is less-than-democracy, however expedient, and should not be done lightly. Why not confront a few of the usual suspects with this simple logic and see if any can βget itβ?

perhaps these are your personal views?
that aside I realise there are problems in all public services but sleep better for knowing that the Police are hoovering the creeps off the streets,
society is sick and the thin blue line is all that we have in some places from keeping it from beocming completely unglued,
my personal view only
i was encouraged by Sir Ian Blair asking why the case against the MPs hasnt being referred to the Police yet, and indicating (I think) that ifit isnt he may still take action?
This might make an interesting story?
and like all those who love their country and what we have here and remain indebted to the work of Yates of the Yard

Perhaps you could have an investigation into the dangers of smoking portrayed in the film 'There will be blood'..
Or an attempt to ban the film 'No country for old men' on the basis that it may result in copycat haircuts..
And a discussion about whether the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ should continue to show the series 'Mad Men' as it may result in bareback fags without filter tips being smoked.
Why stop there ? There are seriously dangerous driving sequences in a lot of Jackie Chan films, and we wouldn't want people watching them, leaving the cinema and involuntarily copying the exploits which they see on screen...
