Still standing

Mark D'Arcy | 15:47 UK time, Tuesday, 19 January 2010

After the "deja coup" of a couple of weeks ago, a lot of observers wondered if one of the ex-Cabinet ministers who called for a Labour Party ballot on Gordon Brown's leadership would leave the Commons.

But Geoff Hoon, former defence secretary and chief whip, is going nowhere. He told my colleague from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's East Midlands Today, John Hess, that he does intend to be a candidate at the next election.

"I am a candidate and it's important I continue the work as I've been doing today as the MP for Ashfield."

Q: So Geoff Hoon's name will be on that ballot paper?

"My ambition is to continue to represent the people of Ashfield."
