So...We Are Scientists are this weeks pet sound...with the brilliant track 'After Hours'.

We always ask our pet sound artist a few questions....but these have to be the best answers we have had back, so we just had to stick them up here!

Have you had your heart broken? Who was s/he and have you forgiven him/her?

I had my heart broken once, sure. It's a story as old as civilization: I loved her, was blind to her flaws, trusted her implicitly; she robbed my apartment and pawned my stuff to buy a car that she and some other guy drove off to god knows where, running over my father on the way out of town, taking with her my passport and credit cards and birth certificate which she sold to a criminal; I subsequently spent time in jail for what this criminal did under the guise of my identity. Hard time -- I lost a kidney. Eight years before my attorney got me out. Family all dead by then. Everybody I knew had moved away. No jobs to be had. Then the lean years: near-starvation, living on the streets, no human affection to speak of. And yes, I have forgiven her. I learned a ton.

Do you have a hidden skill?

It really is a minor skill, but: I can squeeze a tube of toothpaste in such a way that all of its contents come out in a nice continuous stream. No pausing on my part, no breaks in the minty excrement -- indeed, no thinning at all in that peppermint pipeline. You'll be immediately surprised if you try it by how poorly you do. It involves dexterity, patience, and guts.

What's 'the track' about?

It's about that time of night when every instinct says you should not have one last drink, should not linger any longer at the pub, should not continue to talk to this clearly-troublesome yet troublingly-attractive stranger who keeps slurring as she holds eye contact for uninstinctively long periods of time -- what you should do instead is go home. But it occurs to you that you don't have to follow your instincts. Indeed, that not following your instincts -- or at least not having to -- is exactly what makes you human. A squirrel's instinct makes a suggestion and he falls into line without hesitation or quarrel -- ditto the pig, the sheep, the wide-eyed fish of the sea. But not you, not necessarily, not always. Certainly not this time.
