Weekend antics...

It's been one hell of a weekend - as you can see in this little photo gallery...

Friday night at the Union Chapel and as part of Mencap's little noise sessions we had some brilliant bands playing and one surprise support act.... The Chapel is vast and stunning and lit by candles and when the bands start playing is a slice of heaven on Earth....Friday night's line up was the Courteeners, We Are Scientists and Biffy Clyro plus a shy retiring pair of nervous newcomers - Bono and the Edge....

The pair of them did 4 songs including a newie - watched by all the bands performing with rapt expressions on their faces - there was a bit of a meet and greet after and then it all got progressively messier - ending with Julian Barratt from the Mighty Boosh being eaten by a chair... and finally being taken hostage on WAS tourbus and very nearly ending up on tour with them in Cardiff!

Tour manager from WAS, Keith from WAS, Andy from Razorlight, myself and Julian from The Mighty Boosh

saturday night and it was the turn of a couple of newcomers - One Night Only and the Metros plus Pigeon Detectives and The Kooks... Totally different atmosphere this time. The Pigeons got everyone dancing in the aisles and Kooks debuted some new tracks that sounded excellent - specially one with bassist Max singing. Love this band! Then rounded up all the band for mass group photo! Have new sympathy for school photographers...

Sunday night was a complete religious experience...not many times I find tears spilling from my eyes - but when snow Patrol did Run and Chasing Cars - there was definitely a trickle or two...have never felt such an atmosphere in my life. Cracking cover of Sugababes 'About you Now' too...

FYI - the one thing the bands are agreed on is that they find headlining Glastonbury less frightening than playing these gigs where the audience is but a stones throw away....

cool photos jo,i'm surprised you can remeber any of it,as you look slightly tipsy,i was at the automatic session last year and the union chapel has a weird atmosphere about it,weird in a good way.

Went to see the Kooks on Saturday night, as Jo says the venue is absolutely amazing and with such a small audience to call it an intimate gig is an understatement. Such a great night had we're going back again on Tuesday night to see the Enemy and especially the Wombats!!! anyone else going, we'll see you there!!
